Folsom Street Fair, Portola and Giants-Dodgers Collide Sept. 27 — What SF Travelers Need to Know

SAN FRANCISCO — Sunday, Sept. 27 is shaping up to be one of the city's most complicated travel days of the fall. Folsom Street Fair will fill part of SoMa, the Giants host the Dodgers at Oracle Park at lunchtime, and Portola Music Festival opens its second day at Pier 80 shortly afterward.

Those three crowds will overlap on the eastern side of San Francisco, while the Cole Valley Fair creates a separate neighborhood closure and attendance pocket on the west side. The events are not all next door to one another, but their schedules are close enough that driving, parking and cross-city travel can interact.

What is happening in San Francisco on Sept. 27?

How big is Folsom Street Fair?

The organizer lists the 2026 Folsom Street Fair for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Its 2026 sponsorship materials project 275,000-plus attendees, which makes the fair the largest single crowd in this Sunday mix.

SFMTA planning material identifies a broad closure window around the fair beginning Saturday evening and extending into early Monday. Event-specific reroute details can still change, so this page will be updated when SFMTA publishes the final travel advisory.

Can you park at Portola?

No festival parking is available at Pier 80. Portola's current transportation page tells attendees not to drive to the event. The main entrance is at 900 Marin Street.

For BART riders, Portola says a free shuttle will run between 24th Street Mission BART and Pier 80 from 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.. The San Francisco loading zone is at Valencia and 24th streets; the Pier 80 loading zone is near Illinois and 24th streets.

That shuttle matters on Sept. 27 because it moves festival traffic away from the already busy Oracle Park/SoMa corridor rather than inviting another large parking hunt near Pier 80.

When is Giants-Dodgers at Oracle Park?

The Giants list the Sept. 27 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers for 12:05 p.m. as part of Fan Appreciation Weekend and a Mike Krukow celebration.

A lunchtime first pitch means the biggest inbound baseball crowd will arrive while Folsom Street Fair is opening and before Portola's 1 p.m. doors. The postgame period can then overlap with the afternoon peaks for both events.

Should you drive across SoMa or Mission Bay that Sunday?

If you have a choice, public transit will be more predictable than hunting for curb space. That is especially true for Portola, where the festival itself says not to drive.

Drivers who are not attending an event should still plan for slower local movement through SoMa, Mission Bay, Dogpatch and the southeast waterfront. A closure that is manageable on a normal Sunday can become more disruptive when several large crowds are arriving and leaving at different times.
