SAN FRANCISCO — A seven-hour Mid-Autumn Festival with lanterns, Hanfu experiences, cultural performances, crafts and games is coming to the San Francisco County Fair Building on Sunday, Sept. 27.
The Bodhi Mid-Autumn Festival Community Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1199 9th Avenue in Golden Gate Park. The organizer's current event listing describes it as a free, all-ages community event.
What will be at the festival?
Organizers list lantern-themed activities, Hanfu experiences and photo areas, live cultural performances, crafts, games and interactive festival stations.
The current program description also includes a photo booth with a printed photo, lantern and mooncake crafts, ring toss, an oracle-reading station, a lucky draw and themed wish stations. Visitors can pick up a festival map and move among the different activity areas.
Hanfu — traditional Chinese clothing — is welcomed by the organizer, but it is not a requirement for attending.
Is the Mid-Autumn Festival free?
Yes. The organizer lists admission as free. The event is using Eventbrite for registration and separately offers preregistration connected to its lucky draw.
Because the organizer is taking registrations, anyone planning around a specific activity or wanting the simplest check-in should use the current organizer listing rather than relying on an older calendar description.
Where is the San Francisco County Fair Building?
The County Fair Building is at 1199 9th Avenue, on the south side of Golden Gate Park near the Botanical Garden and Music Concourse area.
The N Judah stops at 9th Avenue and Irving Street, a short walk from the building. SFMTA's current route page lists that stop on the N Judah, making rail one of the simplest approaches from downtown.
What about parking?
The organizer's Eventbrite listing labels parking as free, but it does not identify a reserved event parking lot or guarantee that a space will be available. Visitors should not read that label as a promise of dedicated festival parking.
Free street parking exists in parts of Golden Gate Park and the surrounding Inner Sunset, but spaces can disappear quickly on busy weekends. The Music Concourse Garage farther east is a paid option.
Transit may be more predictable on Sept. 27 because several events are happening in the same part of the park.
Can you combine this with other Golden Gate Park events?
Yes. German Day runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. around the Golden Gate Park Bandshell and Music Concourse the same Sunday.
The two events are separate and have different organizers, but they are close enough that visitors interested in both can move between the County Fair Building and Music Concourse area without driving across the city.
