SAN FRANCISCO — M Ocean View riders traveling through the southern end of the line will have to switch between a train and a bus this weekend while Muni makes emergency track repairs in Ocean View.
The service change begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, and continues through the end of service Sunday, Sept. 27. SFMTA says repair work on the inbound tracks at San Jose and Niagara avenues starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and is scheduled to run until 1 a.m. Monday.
Where will M Ocean View trains run?
M trains will continue running between Broad Street and Plymouth Avenue and Embarcadero Station. Between Broad and Plymouth and Balboa Park Station, Muni will use shuttle buses instead.
Riders continuing through the affected section will transfer between the train and shuttle bus at Broad Street and Plymouth Avenue. That means trips through SF State, Stonestown, West Portal, Forest Hill, Castro and downtown can remain on rail once the train reaches the Broad and Plymouth end of the split service.
Which M Ocean View stops are affected?
Toward downtown, SFMTA lists San Jose Avenue at Geneva Avenue, Lakeview Avenue and Farallones Street as bus-shuttle stops before the transfer to the train at Broad and Plymouth.
Toward Balboa Park, riders transfer from the train to the bus at Broad and Plymouth. The shuttle then serves San Jose Avenue at Farallones Street and Lakeview Avenue. At the San Jose and Niagara area, SFMTA directs riders to Geneva Avenue and San Jose Avenue for drop-off only.
When does the M Ocean View service change start?
The passenger-service change begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, one hour before the scheduled 9 a.m. start of track work. It lasts through the end of Muni service Sunday.
The repair itself is scheduled through 1 a.m. Monday. Riders traveling late Sunday should therefore keep checking live transit conditions rather than assuming normal service has returned early.
Can riders avoid the shuttle?
For some trips, yes. SFMTA's standing M Ocean View alternatives guide points to the 54 Felton for some Ocean View trips to Balboa Park. Around SF State and Stonestown, the 28 and 28R can also connect riders toward Daly City BART, although BART uses its normal fare rules.
For many riders making a normal M-line trip, staying with the M and making the single train-to-bus transfer at Broad and Plymouth will still be the most direct option.
What else should weekend riders know?
The M disruption overlaps another major regional transit change: BART's Green Line will also be suspended Sept. 26–27 while a bus bridge replaces trains between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont.
