SAN FRANCISCO — A new multi-story home for arts, journalism and civic organizations in Mid-Market is opening its doors to the public on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Warfield Commons, at 988 Market Street, is holding a free five-hour grand opening with cultural performances, local food vendors, tenant-led building tours and family activities. The project brings Community Arts Stabilization Trust and KALW together in a permanent downtown hub designed for artists, media organizations and community groups.
When is the Warfield Commons grand opening?
The public celebration runs noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Warfield Commons and KALW both describe the event as free.
The announced program includes cultural performances, a showcase of local food vendors, tours led by organizations working in the building and family-friendly activities.
Where is Warfield Commons?
Warfield Commons is at 988 Market Street in Mid-Market, close to the Warfield Theatre and the Market Street transit corridor.
The building sits between the Powell Street and Civic Center parts of downtown. For most visitors, arriving by BART or Muni and walking from Market Street will avoid the uncertainty of downtown parking on an already busy Sunday.
What is Warfield Commons?
Warfield Commons describes itself as a hub for arts, media, culture and civic engagement. The project was developed by Community Arts Stabilization Trust, or CAST, and KALW.
The idea is broader than a single performance venue. The building is intended to house artists, journalists, cultural organizations and other community groups in one shared downtown location, with public events and learning programs bringing people into the space.
Do you need a ticket?
The grand opening is listed as a free public event. The organizer’s announcement does not present general admission as a paid ticketed program.
