SAN FRANCISCO — The Cole Valley Street Fair returns Sunday, Sept. 27 with local makers, food, music, children’s activities and vintage cars — and a transit footprint that starts hours before the booths open.
The fair itself runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. SFMTA will close parts of Cole Street and Parnassus Avenue from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., while several Muni reroutes begin at 5 a.m. The N Judah rail line is not rerouted, but the agency says trains may see minor delays near the event.
Where is the Cole Valley Street Fair?
The fair occupies Cole Street and Parnassus Avenue in the heart of Cole Valley. SFMTA lists these closures from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
- Cole Street between Frederick and Carl
- Cole Street between Carl and Grattan
- Parnassus Avenue between Belvedere and Shrader
Carl Street remains open throughout the day, according to SFMTA.
What time is the fair?
The public event runs 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Sunset Mercantile’s calendar lists the event as free. SFMTA describes local artists and handmade crafts, food, live music, vintage automobiles and children’s activities.
What happens to the N Judah?
The N Judah rail line continues through the area, but SFMTA says it may experience minor delays near the fair.
The early-morning N Judah Bus is rerouted from 6 to 8 a.m. Inbound buses use Arguello, Frederick, Stanyan and Haight; outbound buses use Haight, Stanyan, Frederick and Arguello before returning to the regular route.
If you are arriving after rail service has started, the N remains one of the most direct ways to reach Cole Valley, but allow for crowding around Carl and Cole.
Which Muni buses are rerouted?
The 6 Hayes/Parnassus, 37 Corbett and 43 Masonic are rerouted from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The 6 bypasses the fair using Stanyan, Haight and Masonic. The 37 shifts around the Cole/Parnassus area using Clayton, Frederick and 17th Street depending on direction. The 43 uses Stanyan and Haight to avoid the closed blocks.
SFMTA says operators will make stops before intersections along the reroutes at passenger request. Anyone relying on a specific stop should check the agency’s affected-stop list before leaving home.
Can you drive and park in Cole Valley during the fair?
Driving is possible outside the closure footprint, but curb parking in Cole Valley is limited even on a normal weekend. With Cole and Parnassus partially closed until 7 p.m., parking close to the event will be less predictable than usual.
If you drive, plan to park outside the immediate fair blocks and walk. Do not assume you will be able to cross Cole or Parnassus on your normal route during setup, the event or breakdown.
How does this fit into the rest of Sept. 27?
Cole Valley is only one part of a very busy Sunday. Folsom Street Fair, the Giants-Dodgers game and Portola are all drawing crowds on the east side of San Francisco, while several Golden Gate Park events add westside traffic.
