SAN FRANCISCO — Visitacion Valley's free night market returns to Leland Avenue on Friday, Sept. 25 with food vendors, neighborhood shopping, live music, street dancing and family activities — plus an afternoon street closure and a long 56 Rutland reroute.
The public market runs 4 to 8:30 p.m.. Traffic controls start earlier: SFMTA says Leland Avenue between Peabody Street and Bayshore Boulevard will close from noon to 10 p.m., including the Leland intersections at Alpha and Desmond streets.
What time is the Visitacion Valley Night Market?
The Sept. 25 market is scheduled for 4–8:30 p.m.. SFMTA describes it as a free, all-ages community event with food, local merchants, live music, dancing, family activities and community organizations.
The street itself closes four hours longer than the public event window, so a noon closure does not mean the market starts at noon.
Where is the night market?
The event occupies Leland Avenue between Peabody Street and Bayshore Boulevard in Visitacion Valley. SFMTA also lists the Leland intersections at Alpha Street and Desmond Street as closed during the noon–10 p.m. traffic-control window.
What happens to the 56 Rutland?
The 56 Rutland outbound toward Arleta & Bayshore reroutes from 11:30 a.m. until the end of service.
SFMTA says outbound buses will travel from Rutland and Visitacion via Visitacion and Bayshore before returning to the regular route.
Which 56 Rutland stops are missed?
Three regular stops are listed as missed:
- Rutland Street & Leland Avenue
- Leland Avenue & Alpha Street
- Leland Avenue & Bayshore Boulevard
SFMTA directs riders instead to Rutland Street & Visitacion Avenue or Bayshore Boulevard & Visitacion Avenue. The Bayshore/Visitacion location is also served by the 8 Bayshore, 9 San Bruno and 9R San Bruno Rapid.
Should you drive to the night market?
The organizer says there is no designated event parking. Limited street parking may be available in the surrounding neighborhood, but the Leland Avenue closure removes the most obvious curb access next to the market.
All My Usos recommends public transportation, rideshare, walking or biking instead of counting on event parking.
Can you use Caltrain?
Yes. Caltrain lists the Visitacion Valley Night Market as an event and says Bayshore Station is less than one mile from the event site, providing regional service from the Peninsula and South Bay.
Visitors using Caltrain should still allow time for the walk between the station and Leland Avenue rather than treating Bayshore as an on-site stop.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes. The organizer says leashed dogs are welcome, while warning that the market will be a busy environment with music, food and crowds.
