SAN FRANCISCO — Friday's free Latino Heritage Month Night Market brings live lucha libre, food, music and local vendors to Ocean Avenue and Mission Street — while a long street closure forces the 49 Van Ness/Mission to detour.
Current public event listings put the market at 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.. SFMTA's traffic operation begins much earlier: Ocean Avenue between Mission and Persia is scheduled to close from noon until 11:59 p.m.
Where is Ocean Avenue closed?
SFMTA says Ocean Avenue between Mission Street and Persia Avenue will be closed for most of Friday afternoon and evening. Drivers and residents can therefore encounter the closure several hours before the public program starts.
What happens to the 49 Van Ness/Mission?
The 49 reroutes in both directions around the event. Inbound buses toward Fort Mason detour around Ocean/Persia via Persia and Mission before returning to the regular route. Outbound buses toward City College use Mission, Onondaga, Alemany and Ocean to get around the closure.
Do not assume the 49 will serve its normal Ocean Avenue stops during the event window. Check live service before leaving and be prepared to walk from Mission Street or another alternate stop.
What time does the night market actually start?
Use 4:30–8:30 p.m. as the current public event window. SFMTA's noon-to-midnight language describes the wider closure and transit operation rather than four extra hours of public programming.
