SAN FRANCISCO — Two fall traditions come together at Presidio Tunnel Tops on Saturday, Nov. 7, when the park hosts a free, family-friendly Día de los Muertos and Diwali Festival.

The Presidio lists the celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and says all ages are welcome. Admission is free.

What is happening at the festival?

The official event listing describes live performances and participatory activities including arts and crafts, storytelling, cultural dance, song and a fire ceremony. The program is designed both as a celebration and a learning opportunity around South Asian and Latinx traditions.

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy also lists a Planting as Remembrance stewardship activity from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; that smaller activity has limited spots and advance registration, while the larger 10 a.m.–3 p.m. festival remains open to everyone.

Where is it?

The festival is at Presidio Tunnel Tops, 210 Lincoln Boulevard, near the Presidio Visitor Center and Crissy Field Center.

How do you get to Presidio Tunnel Tops?

The Presidio lists Muni 43 Masonic to Presidio Transit Center and Muni 30 Stockton to the Sports Basement/Crissy Field area. The free Presidio GO Downtown Route also stops at Presidio Transit Center.

Paid parking is available around Presidio Tunnel Tops, including lots near the Visitor Center and Transit Center. Because this is a free weekend event in a popular park, transit is the simpler option if attendance is heavy.

Do you need a ticket?

The Presidio lists the main festival as free and open to all ages. The separate Planting as Remembrance activity is the piece for which the Parks Conservancy recommends advance registration because space is limited.

Why this one may draw a crowd

The event combines two highly visual cultural observances in one of San Francisco’s most visited public spaces, on a Saturday, with no general admission charge. That makes the practical questions — exact hours, location, parking and transit — more useful than a simple event listing.
