SAN FRANCISCO — BART riders traveling through the southern East Bay should allow substantially more time next weekend.
There will be no train service between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12–13 while crews replace an interlocking near Fremont Station.
How much extra time should riders allow?
BART says riders passing through the shutdown should plan for about 30 to 40 minutes of additional travel time.
Free AC Transit buses will replace trains through the work area. BART’s work notice says both direct buses and “hopper” buses will operate.
Will the Green Line run?
No. BART will suspend the Green Line for the entire weekend. Orange and Blue Line trains will carry riders around the work zone, with transfer patterns changing for trips to and from San Francisco.
Where does the bus bridge run?
The free bus bridge connects Union City, Fremont and Warm Springs/South Fremont. Fremont Station remains available for bus service but will have no train service during the shutdown.
For San Francisco riders, the biggest effect is on trips that continue south of Union City or start in Fremont/Warm Springs. Build the extra 30–40 minutes into your plans rather than relying on a normal weekend timetable.
BART says similar work is scheduled again for Sept. 26–27.
