SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Valkyries will celebrate their first WNBA championship with a downtown waterfront parade Wednesday, Nov. 4, creating a large midday event along The Embarcadero and a much longer traffic-and-transit disruption around it.
The team says the parade runs from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., beginning at the Ferry Building near Mission Street and ending at King and 2nd Street. Fans may begin lining up at 9 a.m. on the bay side of The Embarcadero from Mission Street to 2nd Street.
What is the Valkyries parade route?
The procession starts at the Ferry Building and travels south along The Embarcadero toward King Street, finishing at King and 2nd. The official team page describes the public viewing area as the bay side of The Embarcadero between Mission and 2nd.
No ticket is listed for watching the parade route. The useful distinction is between the two-hour celebration and the transportation footprint: SFMTA’s event advisory runs from early morning into the afternoon, and several streets close well before the parade begins.
Which streets will close?
SFMTA lists a broad closure zone around the waterfront. The longest restrictions begin at 12:01 a.m. and are scheduled to remain through 4 p.m.; other cross streets close from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
| Street / area | Scheduled closure |
|---|---|
| Eastbound King + northbound Embarcadero, 3rd/King to Broadway/Embarcadero | 12:01 a.m.–4 p.m. |
| Southbound Embarcadero + westbound King, Broadway to 3rd/King | 8 a.m.–4 p.m. |
| Market, Drumm to Steuart | 12:01 a.m.–4 p.m. |
| Mission, Howard, Folsom, Harrison and Bryant, Main to Embarcadero | 8 a.m.–4 p.m. |
| Brannan, 2nd to Embarcadero; Townsend, 3rd to Embarcadero; 2nd, Brannan to King | 8 a.m.–4 p.m. |
Washington between Drumm and The Embarcadero also closes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Steuart and Spear south of Market are scheduled to close from 12:01 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local access is maintained to Delancey Street from the Brannan closure.
Which Muni lines change for the parade?
SFMTA lists changes to the F Market & Wharves, N Judah, 2 Sutter, 9 San Bruno, 9R San Bruno Rapid, 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid and 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express.
The largest rail change is on the N Judah: from about 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., eastbound trains end at Embarcadero Station and westbound trains begin there. SFMTA points riders between downtown and Caltrain toward the 30 Stockton, 45 Union/Stockton and T Third Street/Central Subway.
The F line is scheduled to use buses all day, with downtown stops altered around the Ferry Building. Several Market Street routes turn back or detour before reaching the waterfront. Anyone traveling through the Financial District, Ferry Building or South Beach during the event should check live Muni alerts rather than relying on a normal stop pattern.
Why San Francisco is holding the parade
The Valkyries defeated the Atlanta Dream 68–63 in Game 7 at Chase Center to win the 2026 WNBA Finals. The team says it is the first organization to win a championship within its first two expansion seasons. Gabby Williams was named Finals MVP after scoring 30 points in the clinching game.
That makes Wednesday’s event both a championship celebration and a large downtown transportation event. The parade route links the Ferry Building with the South Beach/Mission Bay edge, so the practical impact extends beyond fans attending the celebration.
What to know before heading downtown
- The parade itself is scheduled for noon–2 p.m.
- Fans can begin lining the route at 9 a.m.
- Road closures begin hours earlier and may remain until 4 p.m.
- N Judah service will not run along The Embarcadero/King segment during the main event window.
- SFMTA says some details are still being finalized, so live transit information may change Wednesday morning.
