SAN FRANCISCO — Sundown Cinema closes its 2026 season Friday, Oct. 16 with a free outdoor screening of Beetlejuice at Crane Cove Park in Dogpatch.
The current organizer page gives the timing that matters: activities begin at 5 p.m. and the movie starts around sunset, approximately 6:30 p.m. That is earlier than some secondary calendar listings still circulating online.
What time does Beetlejuice start at Crane Cove Park?
The San Francisco Standard, which organizes Sundown Cinema, says the movie will begin at about 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 16, just after sunset.
Pre-movie activations begin at 5 p.m., and the finale includes a Halloween costume contest. Anyone who wants a good lawn position should plan around the 5 p.m. activity start rather than arriving at the movie time.
Is Sundown Cinema free?
Yes. The screening is free and open to everyone. The organizer encourages an RSVP, but describes it as a way to enter for special reserved-seating access rather than a ticket required for general admission.
That distinction matters: an RSVP can be useful, but the event is not described as a paid or ticketed movie screening.
Where is Crane Cove Park?
Crane Cove Park is a seven-acre waterfront park at 18th Street and Illinois Street in Dogpatch. The Port of San Francisco lists a large lawn, public restrooms, picnic tables and other park amenities.
The screening is at Crane Cove Park — not Dolores Park. Sundown Cinema used Dolores Park earlier in the season, which may explain why older event references can be confusing.
How do you get there on Muni?
The closest rail option is the T Third stop at Third and 20th streets, a short walk from the park. The T connects Dogpatch with Mission Bay, downtown, Union Square and Chinatown through the Central Subway.
The 55 Dogpatch also serves 20th Street at Third Street. Check live transit conditions before leaving because service can change with other Friday events.
What should you bring?
This is an outdoor waterfront screening, so layers are useful after sunset even if the afternoon is mild. A blanket or low-profile seating setup can make the lawn more comfortable; leave enough space for other viewers and follow organizer directions for reserved and general seating areas.
The organizer is also collecting canned-food donations for the SF-Marin Food Bank during the Sundown Cinema series.
What if the weather changes?
Outdoor movie timing can shift with weather and sunset conditions. Recheck the organizer’s event page on Friday before traveling, especially if rain or strong wind enters the forecast.
