SAN FRANCISCO — Haight Street will become a pedestrian festival for much of Sunday, Sept. 20 when the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair returns to the neighborhood.
The organizer confirms the 2026 fair for Sept. 20 and says the event draws thousands of visitors. Its current vendor operating material lists public fair hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Which part of Haight Street will close?
City transportation records list Haight Street from Stanyan Street to Masonic Avenue for closure from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 — five hours longer than the public fair itself.
Drivers should expect surrounding streets to be busier as traffic diverts around the main Haight corridor.
What is happening at the fair?
The fair mixes neighborhood vendors, food, community organizations and live entertainment along Haight Street. The organizer’s current site is still more detailed for vendors than for visitors, so SF News Today is watching for the final 2026 stage schedule.
San Francisco Recreation and Parks is also bringing its Mobile Rec program to the fair, with family activities planned during the day.
What happens to Muni?
The 7 Haight/Noriega normally runs directly along the event corridor, while the 33 Ashbury/18th and 43 Masonic serve the surrounding area. Because Haight Street itself will be closed, event-day changes are likely near the fair.

Comedy Day is happening next door
There is an unusual planning wrinkle this year: Comedy Day is also Sept. 20 at Robin Williams Meadow, immediately inside Golden Gate Park near Stanyan Street.
That means the same eastern edge of Golden Gate Park will be absorbing two large free events at once. Parking pressure and pedestrian volumes could be considerably higher than on an ordinary fair day.
