SAN FRANCISCO — A new free music festival is coming to the western edge of San Francisco, where Taraval Street reaches Ocean Beach.
TideFest is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 from 1 to 9 p.m. at Taraval Street and Lower Great Highway. The Riptide describes it as free and family-friendly, with live music, an art market and food trucks.
Because this is a new festival, there is no long-established annual event page answering all of the practical questions yet. Publishing the basics early also gives visitors time to plan around transit and whatever traffic controls the city eventually confirms.
Who is playing TideFest?
A current event listing gives the announced lineup as Bayonics, Momotombo SF, Don’t Tell John, Long Tall Dan and the Foogie Boogies, This Train Don’t Stop, Starry Eyed Cadet, DJ Brown Angel, Stanley Frank Sensation, Los Ahijados De La Changa and DJ Veesh Maria.
The event is presented by The Riptide and organized by ArtyHood, with support from the Live Music Society’s Music in Action program.
A detailed set-by-set performance timetable has not yet surfaced in the sources SF News Today reviewed, so people coming for one specific act should check again closer to Sept. 19.
Where exactly is TideFest?
The event location is Taraval Street at Lower Great Highway, near the western end of Taraval and Ocean Beach. The Riptide itself is nearby at 3639 Taraval Street.
Outer Sunset weather can be cooler and windier than downtown, even on an otherwise mild San Francisco afternoon. Layers are a sensible choice for an event that runs eight hours into the evening.
How do you get to TideFest on Muni?
The L Taraval is the most useful rail connection from central San Francisco. SFMTA’s current L Taraval route runs through the Market Street subway and West Portal before heading west on Taraval and toward the zoo.
Stops at Taraval and 44th Avenue and Taraval and 46th Avenue put riders close to the festival area. The L connects with downtown BART stations, making transit likely to be easier than trying to park immediately beside Ocean Beach.
Will Taraval Street be closed?
SF News Today has not yet found a current city traffic notice confirming an exact TideFest street-closure footprint or closure time.
The event is publicly advertised at Taraval and Lower Great Highway, but readers should not assume a specific closure boundary until SFMTA or another city agency publishes it. That missing information could matter both to drivers and to the western end of Muni service.
