The farewell party is over, but R-Evolution is still standing at Embarcadero Plaza for a little longer. The next useful date is the removal window: organizers say dismantling starts Monday, Oct. 12 and the 45-foot sculpture should be completely off site by Thursday, Oct. 15.
San Francisco Recreation and Parks lists an “R-EVOLUTION Removal” advisory for Oct. 13–15. That one-day difference means the safest interpretation is that site work begins around Oct. 12–13 and is expected to finish by Oct. 15.
What is the last day to see R-Evolution?
There is no published “last viewing hour.” If you specifically want to see the sculpture intact, go before Monday, Oct. 12. Once dismantling begins, access and visibility may change as crews secure the plaza and take the work apart.
Where is R-Evolution?
The sculpture is at Embarcadero Plaza near Market and Steuart streets, across from the Ferry Building area. Embarcadero BART and Muni are the easiest access points; driving into the immediate downtown waterfront is usually less convenient than using transit.
Why is R-Evolution leaving?
The public materials frame the move as the end of the installation’s run. The sculpture has been at Embarcadero Plaza since April 2025. Organizers have not announced a permanent replacement location in the materials reviewed for this update.
The removal also comes while Embarcadero Plaza itself is heading toward broader changes. SF News Today has separately reported on planned plaza renovation work and tree removal.
What happened at the Oct. 2 farewell?
Big Art Loop, Building 180, Opulent Temple and San Francisco Recreation and Parks held a free farewell celebration on Oct. 2 with music, performances and a closing dance program. That event is now past, so this page has been refocused on the removal dates rather than continuing to lead with an expired party.
Will the sculpture move somewhere else?
No next site has been announced in the current organizer or city material reviewed by SF News Today. If a new location is confirmed, this same page will be updated.
