Lower Polk LiveFriday, Oct. 23 · 4–9 p.m. · free · all ages · Polk Street between Bush and Sutter.

SAN FRANCISCO — Lower Polk Live returns Friday evening with free music, art, DJs and dancing, and the transportation impact begins well before the first performance.

The Lower Polk Community Benefit District says the neighborhood celebration runs from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23. SFMTA says Polk Street and Fern Street closures begin at 2 p.m., while the 19 Polk starts rerouting at 1:30 p.m.

Is Lower Polk Live free?

Yes. The organizer describes Lower Polk Live as free and all ages. RSVP is encouraged, but the public event page does not list an admission charge.

The program includes Bay Area fusion band The Top Chefs, DJ JP Breganza, Kendo the DJ, the Skratchfight turntable community and soul line dancing with Westside Steppaz. The event is part of the Lower Polk CBD’s I Love Lower Polk programming.

Which streets close for Lower Polk Live?

SFMTA lists two closures from 2 to 10:30 p.m. Friday:

StreetClosure
Polk StreetBush Street to Sutter Street
Fern StreetVan Ness Avenue to Larkin Street

Those closure hours are longer than the 4–9 p.m. event itself, so drivers and deliveries should plan around the setup and teardown window rather than only the performance hours.

How is the 19 Polk changing?

The useful news for riders is that the 19 Polk reroutes but does not miss any stops, according to SFMTA. The detour runs from 1:30 p.m. until the end of service.

DirectionRerouteMissed stops
Inbound to Fisherman’s WharfFrom Polk & Sutter via Sutter, Van Ness, Bush, then PolkNone
Outbound to Hunters PointFrom Polk & Bush via Bush, Hyde, Sutter, then PolkNone

That means riders can generally use their normal stop, but the bus will make a small loop around the closed event block. Build in extra time because traffic on the surrounding streets may be slower.

Where exactly is the event?

The event is centered on Polk Street between Bush and Sutter, with Fern Street also used inside the closure footprint. The neighborhood is a short walk from several Van Ness transit options.

If you are driving, street parking inside the closure is not an option during setup, the event or teardown. The simplest plan is to arrive by Muni or park outside the closure area and walk in.

What should I search for Friday?

If you are checking conditions just before leaving, the most useful live terms are “19 Polk,” “Lower Polk Live,” and SFMTA’s travel advisory. The organizer’s event page is the best place to confirm entertainment or RSVP changes; SFMTA is the authoritative source for the street and transit plan.
