SAN FRANCISCO — Lit Crawl returns to the Mission District on Saturday, Oct. 24, turning bars, cafés, galleries, bookstores and unconventional spaces into one-night reading rooms for Litquake’s festival finale.
Litquake says the free crawl brings together more than 250 authors and close to 5,000 attendees and describes it as the world’s largest free pop-up literary event.
Is the 2026 Lit Crawl schedule available yet?
Not in a clean final form as of Oct. 15. Litquake’s current Lit Crawl page says “2026 Lit Crawl schedule coming soon”, even though the same page also displays links labeled “View Full Schedule” and “Download 2026 Lit Crawl Map.”
That inconsistency is why this guide treats the date, scale and Mission District location as confirmed while leaving individual reading times and venue assignments to be updated when Litquake publishes a clearly final program.
Where is Lit Crawl?
There is no single entrance. The crawl spreads through the Mission District, with participating spaces ranging from normal literary venues such as bookstores and cafés to bars, galleries and unusual locations including tattoo parlors, barbershops and laundromats.
BART riders should expect the two Mission stations — 16th Street/Mission and 24th Street/Mission — to be the main rail gateways once the final venue map is published.
Is Lit Crawl free?
Yes. Litquake describes the main Lit Crawl as a free literary event. Individual venues may have capacity or age restrictions, especially bars, so readers should check the final schedule before choosing a route.
What should you decide before Oct. 24?
The most useful plan is to wait for the final Litquake schedule, then choose a small number of readings that are geographically close rather than trying to cross the Mission repeatedly between programs.
If you are attending with children or teenagers, check each venue’s age policy. If you have one author or program you especially want to see, make that the anchor and build the rest of the evening around nearby venues.
What happens after Lit Crawl?
Litquake also lists a separate Lit Crawl afterparty at The Drawing Room: ANNEX, 599 Valencia Street. The afterparty is separate from the free crawl itself and has its own admission terms.
SF News Today will update this same URL when Litquake’s complete 2026 schedule and map are unambiguously live, rather than create a second guide.
