From the E: Fall Festival Night MarketFriday, Oct. 23 · 4:30–8:30 p.m. · free community event · Ocean Avenue at Mission Street.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Excelsior’s From the E night market returns Friday with food, crafts, entertainment and live music, while Ocean Avenue closes for almost 12 hours around the four-hour event.

The market runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23. SFMTA says Ocean Avenue between Mission Street and Persia Avenue will close from noon through 11:59 p.m., and the 49 Van Ness/Mission reroute begins at 11:30 a.m.

Is the Excelsior Night Market free?

Yes. From the E promotes the Fall Festival Night Market as free community fun. The organizer is also taking RSVPs; people who RSVP are eligible for a raffle with prizes including local-business gift cards and must be present if their name is drawn.

SFMTA describes the evening as a night of food, unique crafts, entertainment and live music on Ocean Avenue.

What part of Ocean Avenue is closed?

Ocean Avenue between Mission Street and Persia Avenue is scheduled to close from 12 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Friday. The closure begins four and a half hours before the market opens and continues well after it ends.

The organizer promotes the event at Ocean Avenue and Mission Street. SFMTA’s traffic plan covers the larger Mission-to-Persia block, which is the better boundary to use when planning a drive or pickup.

How does the 49 Van Ness/Mission reroute?

SFMTA says the 49 reroutes in both directions from 11:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Two regular stops are missed.

DirectionMissed stopSuggested alternates
Inbound to Fort MasonOcean Ave & Persia AveOcean & Cayuga; Mission & Persia; Mission & Excelsior
Outbound to City CollegeOcean Ave & Mission StMission & Francis; Mission & Persia; Ocean & Cayuga

The inbound 49 runs from Ocean and Persia via Persia and Mission before returning to its regular route. Outbound buses use Mission, Onondaga, Alemany and Ocean to get around the closure.

What is the best way to get there?

For people already on the 49 corridor, the bus remains useful as long as you account for the two missed stops. The 14 Mission and 14R Mission Rapid also serve Mission Street; SFMTA specifically identifies the Mission and Persia stop as an existing 14/14R alternative.

Drivers should avoid trying to cross Ocean Avenue inside the Mission-to-Persia closure. Parking a few blocks away and walking to the market is likely to be simpler than circulating immediately around the barricades.

Where should I check for last-minute changes?

Use From the E for event programming and RSVP information, and SFMTA for the transit and street plan. The two official sources describe the location at slightly different levels of detail, so this guide uses the organizer’s Ocean-and-Mission event label and SFMTA’s full closure boundary.
