Thursday, Oct. 29 · 4–6 p.m. on the Ferry Building’s official listing · inside the Marketplace · free and open to the public · trick-or-treating and crafts while supplies last · RSVP requested to help organizers plan candy.
SAN FRANCISCO — Families can trick-or-treat inside one of San Francisco’s best-known landmarks next Thursday, but there is a small timing trap worth knowing before making plans.
The Ferry Building Marketplace’s official event page lists its 2026 Trick-or-Treat event for 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. The venue says the event is free and open to the public.
What happens at the Ferry Building Trick-or-Treat?
Participating shops inside the Marketplace will be marked with festive signage for trick-or-treaters. The venue also lists Halloween crafts, spooky music and games aimed at kids and families.
Candy and crafts are available while supplies last, so families who care most about the trick-or-treat portion have a reason not to wait until the final minutes.
Do you need a ticket or RSVP?
There is no admission charge. The Ferry Building asks families to RSVP through its Eventbrite link because the response helps organizers estimate candy supply. The official event page does not say that an RSVP is required for entry.
Why do some listings show different hours?
The Ferry Building’s own current event page says 4–6 p.m. A Golden Gate transit events calendar currently lists the same Ferry Building Halloween event as 5–7 p.m..
SF News Today is using the venue’s own 4–6 p.m. listing as the primary schedule because it comes directly from the location hosting the event. Families should still recheck the Ferry Building event page on Oct. 29 in case the organizer changes the schedule.
How do you get there?
The Ferry Building is at the foot of Market Street on the Embarcadero. The venue’s visitor information says the F Market streetcar stops directly in front, and Embarcadero BART is about one block away. Multiple Muni and ferry services also reach the area.
For a two-hour family event, transit is usually the simpler option than relying on nearby parking. If you do drive, the Ferry Building lists parking options around the Embarcadero and Washington Street area, but rates and availability can change.
Can you bring a dog inside?
The Ferry Building’s normal policy says pets are not allowed inside the food-facility portions of the Marketplace, with service-animal exceptions. That matters for this event because the trick-or-treating is specifically described as taking place inside the Marketplace.
What else is happening there that day?
The Ferry Building’s current October calendar also lists Music on the Plaza from 5–7 p.m. on Oct. 29. That overlaps the Halloween event, so the waterfront may be busier than on a normal Thursday afternoon.
