SAN FRANCISCO — Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and Chinatown’s Waverly Place will turn into a family festival for four hours with pumpkins, crafts, games, a lion dance and a costume contest.
The Community Youth Center of San Francisco says its 12th annual Chinatown Halloween Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, on Waverly Place between Sacramento and Washington streets.
What is happening at the Chinatown Halloween Festival?
CYC lists a pumpkin patch, arts and crafts, games and other family activities. Its Sept. 24 announcement also lists VR games and a LionDanceMe performance.
Costumes are encouraged. The contest has four categories: children ages 0–11, teens 12–17, adults 18 and older, and families/groups.
What can costume-contest winners receive?
The top three entrants in each category are slated to receive a $50 Chinatown dining gift certificate. CYC says the first 50 contestants who preregister and check in will also receive a goodie bag.
When is the preregistration deadline?
CYC asks costume-contest participants to preregister by Wednesday, Oct. 28. Its announcement also says the first 100 children at Trick-or-Treat Lane will receive a Halloween treat.
Families who only want to attend the festival should still check the organizer’s event page before Oct. 31 for any last-minute instructions or weather changes.
Where is the festival?
The event is on Waverly Place between Sacramento and Washington streets in the heart of Chinatown. CYC lists 830 Sacramento Street as the venue address for mapping purposes.
The festival is sponsored by San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, with Chinatown community organizations participating.
