Randall Museum Family HalloweenOct. 24 · 10 a.m.–2 p.m. · free admission · some activities low-cost · parking extremely limited

SAN FRANCISCO — Randall Museum’s annual Family Halloween Day returns Saturday, Oct. 24 with free admission and four hours of Halloween activities for children and families.

The event runs 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the museum at 199 Museum Way in San Francisco’s Corona Heights neighborhood. Randall says the program will include games, crafts, tricks and treats, costume awards, live music and theater entertainment.

The key planning detail is that while admission is free, not every activity is necessarily free.

How much does Randall Museum Family Halloween cost?

There is no admission charge.

Randall describes the event as having both free and low-cost activities, with activity tickets sold on site. The museum has not published individual activity prices on its event page.

Should you drive?

Randall is unusually direct about this: parking will be extremely limited during the Halloween event, and the museum asks visitors to arrange alternative transportation.

On ordinary days, Randall has a free parking lot, with additional parking around States Street and Roosevelt Way, but the museum warns that its lot can fill quickly on busy Saturdays and during special events. For Oct. 24, arriving by Muni is likely the safer choice.

How do you get to Randall Museum by Muni?

Randall recommends taking Muni Metro to Castro Station and walking uphill toward Museum Way, or taking the 24 Divisadero to the Castro Street area.

There is an important detail for families with young children or strollers: the shortest walk from Castro is very steep.

The museum offers another route that is about one-third of a mile but less steep: walk from Castro and 14th Street up 14th Street to Roosevelt Way, follow Roosevelt to Museum Way, then continue to the museum.

Visitors transferring from BART or regional transit can connect to Muni Metro downtown and continue toward Castro.

What should families expect?

Costumes are encouraged. The announced program includes Halloween-themed games and crafts, costume awards, entertainment and other family activities.

The Halloween program ends at 2 p.m., although Randall Museum normally remains open later on Saturdays. Families mainly interested in the Halloween activities may also find it useful to arrive before the busiest part of the day.
