SAN FRANCISCO — Brava Theater Center is marking three milestones with a free 24th Street block party on Saturday, Oct. 17: 40 years of Brava, 30 years of community ownership and 100 years of the historic theater.
The celebration is on 24th Street between Bryant and Hampshire streets in the Mission, with live performances, DJs, film screenings and art activations.
What time does the Brava Block Party start?
Brava’s own event page is internally inconsistent. Its calendar header and detailed event text say noon–5 p.m., while prominent promotional copy on the same page says 11 a.m.–5 p.m.. SFMTA’s event advisory also lists the public event as noon–5 p.m.
The first scheduled outdoor performance is at 12:30 p.m. Anyone planning to arrive before noon should check Brava’s page for a last-minute clarification.
What is the Oct. 17 performance schedule?
| Time | Outdoor stage |
|---|---|
| 12:30 p.m. | Dazaun Soleyn |
| 12:50 p.m. | Cuicacalli |
| 1:35 p.m. | La Mezcla |
| 2:10 p.m. | SFBATCO |
| 2:25 p.m. | Marga Gomez |
| 2:45 p.m. | DJ Salenie |
| 3:15 p.m. | DJ Brown Angel |
| 4 p.m. | DJ Nina Sol |
Inside Brava Theater, the organizer lists film screenings at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., both centered on San Francisco lowrider history and culture.
Which part of 24th Street is closed?
SFMTA says 24th Street between Bryant and Hampshire will be closed from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., several hours longer than the public event.
How does the 48 Quintara/24th change?
The 48 Quintara/24th Street will reroute from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Inbound toward Potrero Hill, the bus will detour via Bryant, 23rd, Hampshire and back to 24th Street.
The regular inbound stop at 24th and Bryant will be missed. SFMTA directs riders to the existing 27 Bryant stop at Bryant and 24th. Outbound service toward Ocean Beach detours via Hampshire, 25th, Bryant and 24th, with no listed missed stop.
Is the Brava Block Party free?
Yes. Brava describes the event as free and family-friendly. The organizer offers RSVPs for the block party and separate screening RSVPs, but the public celebration itself is not listed as a paid event.
What is the easiest way to get there?
Because 24th Street is closed at the event site and the 48 is rerouted, driving directly to the block is likely to be inconvenient. The event is in the Mission and is within walking distance of the 24th Street BART area, while multiple Muni routes serve nearby streets.
Readers using the 48 should plan around the reroute rather than relying on the regular 24th-and-Bryant stop.
