Art of Metallica at a glanceOpens Nov. 5 · free · Thursday–Sunday, noon–6 p.m. Haight Street Art Center, 215 Haight St.

SAN FRANCISCO — A free exhibition devoted to the visual world around Metallica opens Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Haight Street Art Center.

The Art of Metallica is scheduled to run through Jan. 10, 2027. The center lists regular gallery hours as Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

What will be in the exhibit?

The organizer says the show covers 45 years of artwork behind the band. Announced material includes the original paintings that became the covers of Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, along with concert posters and flyers spanning historic gigs through the most recent tour.

The center also says the exhibition will include fan art from around the world and additional material that has not yet been fully detailed publicly.

Is the Art of Metallica exhibit free?

Yes. Haight Street Art Center describes it as a free art exhibition. The organizer page does not list a general admission ticket requirement.

Where is Haight Street Art Center?

The gallery is at 215 Haight St. in San Francisco. The center lists nearby Muni service including the 7, F, N, J, K, T, L and 22.

The gallery is temporarily closed for installation and is scheduled to reopen Nov. 5 with the Metallica exhibition.

What details are still coming?

The organizer says more details are coming soon, so additional objects, programs or special events may be announced before or after opening day. For now, the dates, free admission, regular hours and core exhibit material are confirmed.

That makes this a useful “plan now, check again” event: visitors can lock in the basic date and hours, while anyone traveling specifically for a particular object or program should check the organizer page again before going.
